Thank You!

Especially those whom I have never met.. your generosity to Chris (my associate pastor who gets my old PowerBook) and me has been amazing…

The grand total after less than a month of begging is…

$526!!!

Whoa!

So- minus some paypal fees, we got almost half way there through the bob.blog!

Absolutely amazing. You should all give yourselves a hand… no, really!

A big thank you to everyone who has thus far pitched in amounts big and small- we were asking for $.99 from people who liked the blog to help me get a new MacBook and pass on my PowerBook to my associate Pastor, Chris.

Asking for $.99 and getting $100, $50, $25, $10, $5… amazing.

So- final chance tonight and tomorrow! Like the blog? Want to help me get a MacBook? Downgrade a Grande to a tall, kick in $.99 and help a brother out…

Read the original post here and click the paypal link on the top left of the blog to kick in!

oh yes, they should…

The MacBook is a powerful and affordable option, especially for people who are uncertain about their Windows future. The next version, Vista, might be a success, but with a MacBook you can hedge your bet. You get a computer that runs both Mac OS X and Windows XP today, and even appears to meet the minimum requirements for Vista once it gets here. Dell and HP should be very worried indeed.

homestretch and thank yous!

Okay- almost done with the MacBook drive! Gonna wrap it up on Friday…
So far, the grand total is…

$405!

Rock on…

Charlie Wear from over @ Next Wave is in for $25!!! Thanks Charlie!!

DJ Chuang kicks in the interesting amount of $5.69 (do YOU have an odd, small bit of money in your paypal account waiting for a good (or at least good-ish) cause? Throw it in the hat for the MacBook!)

Danny/Rachel Peter, in for $10!

Derek Dominguez, ditto- $10

And Nathan Colquhoun kicks in $5

Your generosity amazes me, everyone! I started asking for $.99 from readers to help me get a MacBook and be able to pass my PowerBook on to my associate Pastor Chris, and believe it or not, $.99 is the amount I’ve recieved most infrequently! The average has been much higher- so for that I say

thank you!

So- if you have a bit of change sitting in paypal, or you enjoy the blog and want to say thanks, or you just like me and Chris and want to help out, consider kicking in $.99 and seeing how far we can take this between now and Friday!

Friday, June 9th. That’s the day. Whatever we have at that point, we work it out. I’ll wash some cars or something, shovel the neighbors’ sidewalks, set up a lemonade stand…

That’s 10 days. 10 days to kick in $.99 and tell the bob.blog how much you care! (You can use the handy PayPal button to your upper left)

I can’t believe it myself.

There are two new features on the MacBook which I’m really, really interested in. One is the magnetic coupling for the power cord. It fits snugly, magetically in place, but a tug will release it. Good idea- I hate that they keep changing everything (new accesories need to be bought constantly), but this one is a great idea.
The other feature is the one that when detecting quick changes in altitude or velocity, parks the hard drive.

Why am I interested in those features you ask?

Uh…

Because last night, I stood up and walked away from my desk, taking my Powerbook with me. With me, as in, the cord was wrapped around my foot and when I walked away, it flew off the desk, and crashed.

All seemed well- for awhile. Then, it got buggy. Tried to reboot. Nothing. No thing. Tried install disk. No harddrive recognized. Uh-oh.

The long and the short of it is, the hard drive is toast.

Ah, crud.

A sly scheme to get more people to help out with a MacBook???(I’ve been asking for those who like the blog to kick in $.99 or so)
No! Heaven’s no! You should know I would never hurt my Powerbook like that! Shame on you for even thinking that!

So, I’m sad. Trying various partition schemes to see if I can get the OS re-installed, but so far…

Sigh. Such is life “under the sun”, I suppose.

Okay… A little bit slower day yesterday. A really slow day on Wednesday. But, we’re still about 1/3 of the way there!

$346.59

I saw a dude in starbux the other day with the black MacBook. Very nice.
Thanks for those of you who have contributed to our little internet experiment here, as well as those who (for reasons of friendship or just general goodwill) want to help me get a couple steps closer to a MacBook and be able to pass on my PowerBook to our Associate Pastor.

Rachelle Staley is in for $5!
Artie Farve is in for .$99

Just to reiterate- not looking for your tithe money or your rent check here. Just maybe the difference between a Venti and a Grande for a day or two. $.99! Or, if you have a couple extra bucks sitting in a pay pal account gathering dust, you could throw it in the pot and help us (yes us… we’re all in this together) hit our goal! :)

If you are a regular reader of the bob.blog and feel like it contributes to your overall well-being in some small way, consider clicking the “donate” link at the top left and dropping in some spare change!
